One Room Challenge Kitchen Remodel-Week 4

It’s week 4 of the One Room Challenge sponsored by Better Homes and Gardens. This is flying by and I’m excited to share some of the finishes we picked out with you guys!

Selecting Finishes

This has to be one of my favorite parts of the process. I enjoy searching for the perfect pieces to put together and bring my vision to life. Sometimes it can be frustrating when I have an idea of what I want but can’t find it anywhere or it doesn’t exist. But when I eventually do find what works it all just falls into place.

One Room Challenge Kitchen Remodel-Week 3

Getting Started

Now that we have the plans drawn it was time to fabricate! Our cabinet maker, aka my brother programed the Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine based on the rendering we drew up. To put it simply, this machine uses computerized controls and routers to remove layers of material as well as cut out whatever shapes are programmed. We used large slabs of MDF (medium density fiberboard), which is an engineered wood product made by breaking down wood into wood fibers and binding it into panels using high pressure and temperature. Hi Friends! As many of you know, especially if you have found me via instagram, I have wanted to update my kitchen for quite some time! I thought it would be so much fun to do it with the other guest participants of the One Room Challenge (ORC). We are constantly doing things around the house so this is a fun way for me to document it and take you all along on the journey.

Finishing our Basement: Adding a Fireplace and built-ins

When we built our house one of the items on our list was to be able to entertain our friends and family with lots of space to move around.  Building a ranch style home really allowed for this especially with our ability to have a large open walk-out basement.

Adding a Faux Brick Wall

I’m always looking for ways to add more character to our newer build.  As many of you know we designed and built our home back in 2013, and although we put a lot of thought into the finishes and details, we couldn’t have it all.  We were newly married and fresh out of college so had to stick to a budget.
